Maxon v. Fuller Theological Seminary

Court: United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, No. 20-56156
Case status: Resolved in favor of the respondent, Fuller Theological Seminary
Center involvement: Amicus Curiae
Date of filing: June 17, 2021

Plaintiffs sued Fuller Theological Seminary after the Seminary dismissed them for violating the Seminary’s Community Standards. The Center’s brief, written in support of the Seminary on behalf of Campus Crusade for Christ, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, and Young Life, argues that the First Amendment rights of assembly and association protect the Seminary’s freedom to cultivate a religious community around a shared mission. And it explains the importance of assembly and association in protecting our liberty and preserving a pluralistic society.
